This Just In - New School Computer Network Crashes - All Printer down Posted by horatio on Monday, May 18, 2009 (18:52:06) (163 reads)
Ah, the irony of final at a school run by incompetent bureaucrats!
So I was trying to print some image for a project, and of course since its the last few days of finals everyone is jam packed into the computer lab trying to finish their final papers. So I printed one flyer, nothing. Having had similar problems in the past I printed it to another computer printer, still no luck. Ok, I have seen this before, no sweat. Then a few minutes later one of the girls from the lab tells everyone that the printers are down--across the entire university--and hopefully they will be back up in about 10-15 minutes, she says with a hesitation.
And it's also rather ironic, sitting here in the 3rd floor computer lab where every pole has the words QUIET please printed on them in huge letters--meanwhile the sound of hammering, pounding and construction work has been going on for the last hour directly behind on of the corner lab walls, making it completely impossible to concentrate.
Oh, and did I mention I have been sitting on a milk crate for the last hour because the only free computer I could find had no chair at it...
New School Students Renew Call for Pres. and VP To Resign Posted by horatio on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 (16:44:08) (130 reads)
Students gathered Tuesday morning outside of the Tishman Auditorium on 12th Ave of the New School to renew their call for the resignation of the President and Vice President of the University. Students rose up last December and occupied the Graduate Faculty building slated for closure by the university. The students released a statement this afternoon coinciding with the Emergency Faculty Senate Meeting being held in the auditorium. The statement renewed the call for the resignation of key leadership and listed a series of concerns and grievances which they were organizing around. More on the morning events will be posted as things develop.

Dear Diary : The Warriors Posted by horatio on Sunday, September 28, 2008 (07:57:20) (122 reads)
Cyrus: "You're standing right now with nine delegates from 100 gangs. And there's over a hundred more. That's 20,000 hardcore members. Forty-thousand, counting affiliates, and twenty-thousand more, not organized, but ready to fight: 60,000 soldiers! Now, there ain't but 20,000 police in the whole town. Can you dig it?"
Well, tonight was quite a treat. I went with a few friends to see a showing of The Warriors at the Freak Show in Coney Island, where the movie is based around. If you haven't seen this 1979 film, based off of the book by Sol Yurick, you're really missing out. I feel like, having watched it now, how in the hell did I manage to miss it all of these years. I've heard samples from it, seen it referenced in films, but never realized it until watching it tonight. Plus, there's nothing like seeing this film at the Freak Show in Coney Island, where a group of people were dressed as the Orphans, and a few in the Warrior vests even, complete with a Rocky Horror-esque interactive crowd cheeringl jeering and clinking their beers:
(clicking beer bottles) "Waaaarrrrrriiiorsss, come out to pla-ay!"
Our Official Blog : Look Ma, I'm A New Yorker Now! Posted by horatio on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 (06:10:33) (388 reads)
Well, it's official. I'm a New Yorker, albeit a very new one...
So yeah, for those who haven't been following my life saga very closely, I just moved to NYC to start work on my PhD at the New School in Political Science. So I managed to land a pretty nice apartment in the Stuy Town area, which is a pretty old complex that is really huge--80 acres for just the apartment complex! It's not without it's problems, but it's better than concrete and no greenspace.
I'll be writing more detailed thoughts, reflections, etc soon, but let me just say that so far I am having a blast, met a lot of cool people, and only managed to get turned around once or twice so far! Well, stay tuned for all the latest right here...
